My Last Can

For lunch today, I opened my very last can of Sweet Sue Chicken & Dumplings. I've been saving it for months. Yes, MONTHS.

I think this can my mom had imported back in August... my last batch were imported in April when I visited my dad. Chicken and dumplings aren't sold on St. Kitts. I'd forgotten to go to the store when I was in the states in December and buy some.

Guess waiting until August won't be so bad... I'll be able to eat lots of things that I won't have to cook. I made beer battered fried, Cuban oregano with hot sauce seasoned, pork chops Thursday night. To die for! At least I can cook.

Mid Semester Break 6

Last night I worked late in the lab on a Bartonella project I'm trying to finish.

I saw a prof's stepson's dog on my street. He actually is supposed to live in Camps, so West Farm is quite a trip for him. When he stood up, I could see he had hurt his front left leg, so the sucker in me stopped and let him hop in my car.

I took him home and fed him, then checked out his leg-- dragging it as though he had nerve damage. Poor thing, but as happy as ever! He slept indoors.

At 5am, the cat woke me up. At 6am, the dog started barking. At 7am the goats started bleating. I kicked everyone out, crawled back into bed, then slept until 9am. At that point I muddled around my apartment, gathered my things, and went back to lab. I decided to take the dog with me to drop him off at the clinic for safe keeping.

Several hours past and my lab work didn't work. I had done all that I could have, so I ran to the port to get a chicken sandwich from Bev. While I was standing in line, I got a phone call from a classmate. He said "I can see you!" I looked around and did not see him, so I assumed he was in a restaurant balcony somewhere in Port Zante. He said he was waving, but I still couldn't see him, even with my glasses on. Just shows how small an island this is and that everyone can see everything you do even if you think they can't!

As I was driving home, the traffic started to slow, which is unusual at 1pm on a Monday. As I neared, I saw a large CAT back-hoe tractor thing driving slowly down the road. This happens all the time, it probably just needed more space than the on coming traffic would allow. As I became the next car to drive around it, I saw the cause of the congestion. There was a completely naked full figured woman walking down the middle of the main road. Her arms were out, above her head at times, and she looked angry as she slowly marched. I thought I'd seen everything by this point on St Kitts. Too bad I'd taken my camera out of my purse so it wouldn't get stolen if I were mugged down town. I would have looped back to get a picture... lol... she was a rather large woman, and without a doubt would look far better with clothes on.

I returned home for a well deserved nap. Spoose called and woke me up. He was ready for the goats, so around 5pm, Rudder and I loaded the two kids up and trekked across the island. Spoose already has two female goats, so my two males should have happy little lives.

Day at the Beach

I spent today at Ship Wrecks Beach with Jossie and Melissa getting a fabulous tan.
(See Jossie to the left.)

We went with the intention of eating lunch at the beach. Because our classes usually get out at 11am, we've been conditioned that 11am is lunch time, and therefore we must eat. We arrived at 11:30am starving!

Apparently 11am is not only our preconditioned midday feeding, but also the monkey and mongoose feeding time! We watched as the server walked with a large bag of scraps and trash from the previous day. The bushes started to shake like feeding time for the Velociraptors on Jurassic Park! Out came about 30 mongooses squealing and fighting with each other over scraps of fish and such. The monkeys were more stoic, but they were just as adamant about getting to the food first.

While we dined, a few people from school came and went. There were loads more locally living Europeans than I would have ever expected.

Deondre's Blog

My landlady's sister started living in the apartment behind the utility room sometime over the winter break. Her son has taked quite a liking to me. I think it's cuz he's facinated by the dogs... actually all the animals (goats, cats, etc). They all play together in the street with another neighbor kid up the road.

One day Deondre came home and asked if I could help him make a website. He wanted to call it www.top10.com. I told him that websites cost money and that particular address was probably taken. So I suggested he think about making a blog.

He thought that was a fun idea, so i showed him mine. Then I gave him some paper and had him write it all out. A few days later, when I was babysitting (long story), we made his blog together. To look go to Deondre's Blog, but be sure to vote on his polls because it's exciting for him! He also has a Clustr Map to log your location.

Puppy Love

Aren't they cute! I took these videos a while ago, but thought they'd be fitting for today.
